Tourism in Dowerin
Pose for a photo with Rusty, experience how the settlers lived and delve into pioneering history at the Dowerin Museum or sit back, breathe in that country air and watch the world go by with a visit to Centenary Park.
Dowerin is a one stop shop for visitors and is only a 2 hour scenic drive from the city along the Pioneers Pathway.
Set in the heart of the Wheatbelt Dowerin lies 156km north east of Perth, upon arrival you will be greeted by Rusty our tin dog who stands guard at the Western entrance to town proudly representing the spirit and ingenuity of this small rural community.
Rusty the tin dog was born in 2004 when the children from Dowerin District High School developed a project initiative to encourage people to stop in Dowerin.
The students helped with Rusty’s initial design, sourced funding for his materials and employed an artist to build him.
The students were inspired by the legend of his home, the Tin Dog Creek which originally got its name during settlement in the area and the commencement of mining in the Yilgarn Goldfields.
